As an NVQ student, you will be required to complete a diagnostic assessment at the start of your NVQ programme in literacy and numeracy. This is not a pass or refer exam and will not influence the outcome of your NVQ; the purpose of this assessment is simply to establish if you need any additional help or support in literacy or numeracy related areas.
Before sitting the assessment, please check that the assessment you are completing is set at 'level 2'.

We run a certification batch on a bi-monthly basis and certificates can take up to 6-weeks to arrive from the Awarding Body. We aim to get certificates to all our students within 3 months of their training being completed. Occasionally this period may be extended, especially with funded students as we are unable to apply for certificates until all funding payments have been received from the relevant body.

No, you don’t need any experience of instructing exercise to complete our level 2 qualifications. We do however recommend that all level 2 students have a keen interest in health and fitness and have some basic experience in the area in which they wish to instruct (gym, exercise to music etc). Our qualifications are specifically designed to accelerate learning and as such many students with no experience have still managed to successfully complete their qualifications. All students wishing to complete a level 3 qualification must possess a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction.

You should always ensure that any course you select is endorsed by an awarding body (CYQ, Active IQ, City & Guilds etc). Approved centres are subject to rigorous inspection from awarding bodies to ensure high standards are delivered. All of our qualifications are certificated through CYQ and Active IQ, this gives you the best opportunity of gaining employment upon completion of your studies. Furthermore all of our qualifications are recognised by the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS), the health and fitness industry’s regulatory body.

No. Previously all fitness instructors were required to hold a valid CPR certificate and whilst this is still recognised as being good practice, it is no longer a mandatory requirement. Innervate Training does recommend all fitness professionals possess and full First Aid at Work Qualification and can provide details of local first aid courses upon request. The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS) does not require its members to possess first aid qualifications.

Most of our qualifications are classed as VRQ’s (Vocationally Related Qualifications) and develop the key knowledge and skills necessary to perform the role of a fitness instructor / personal trainer safely and effectively. An NVQ includes all the contents of the VRQ but requires the learner to be employed in the fitness industry; as such many of the assessments are completed in the workplace rather than on a training course. Since most of our students are not yet employed in the fitness industry, the VRQ route is the most popular and suitable route.

The awarding bodies have strict criteria on what students must demonstrate in order to pass their assessment. Any student who doesn’t manage to achieve this standard will receive their first re-assessment completely free. Innervate Training accepts joint responsibility for all students who do not pass their assessments; as such we feel it would be unethical and inappropriate to profit from this outcome. Many training providers charge excessive re-assessment fees even though the awarding body does not charge the training provider for reassessments. Ensure you clarify this with the training provider before you book your course.

Yes. All reservations for courses require a deposit of £100 which covers the cost of the learning materials and support provided during the distance learning period. The remaining balance will be due 14-days prior to the first course attendance. No reservations can be made without a deposit.

It is possible for some students with higher education qualifications (degree, masters, Phd etc) to bypass the level 2 qualification and start their studies at level 3. This route is commonly referred to as ‘Accreditation of Prior Achievement’ (APA) and awarding bodies usually require extensive evidence of previous learning and achievement This usually involves the submission of assignments, reports and research in a relevant subject area. Due to the complexity of this process, most students find it easier and more rewarding to simply complete the level 2 qualification. Many students who select the APA route struggle with the practical aspects of the course.

Upon successful completion and certification of any of our nationally recognised qualifications you will be able to obtain public liability insurance. This insurance will provide you with cover for issues of professionalism in the area (s) that you are qualified to teach. Instructors and trainers should be aware of their boundaries of competence and should not attempt to prescribe exercise in areas they are not qualified to do so. Whilst Innervate Training does not endorse any particular insurance company, you can obtain public liability insurance to cover you in your role as a fitness professional from: www.hbinsurance.co.uk/Sports_Insurance

The Institute for Learning (IfL) is the professional body for teachers, trainers, and tutors. In addition to the specific fitness industry qualifications, Innervate Training requires all of its tutors to be in possession of a professional teaching qualification to ensure that you receive the highest quality of tuition on your training course. For more information on the institute for learning visit www.ifl.ac.uk

Possibly, many of our training courses qualify for government funding which drastically reduces the cost of the course. In some cases the funding completely covers the full course cost. Yes, we usually require a £100 deposit for any course booking and the balance should be paid within 14 days of your first course attendance. If you do wish to split the course cost over the duration of your study period, contact our sales team to find out how to set this up.

The Register of Exercise Professionals (REP’s) has been set up to help safeguard the interests of people using fitness instructors, teachers and trainers. The REP’s creates a framework within which individual instructors and trainers can achieve the highest standards of professionalism; as such all of our training courses are endorsed by REP’s. The system is compatible with most computers and will work well with both Apple Mac or Windows PC. For the best user experience, we recommend using a Windows PC with Internet Explorer. You will also need Microsoft Word installed on your computer to enable you to complete any lesson plans or case-studies that may be part of your training course.

If you are able to manage your own time and workload then it is likely you will reap the many benefits of distance learning, these include: * Reduced course costs * A flexible workload that fits around your current commitments * Flexible location at one of many training venues throughout the UK * Individually paced learning * Accelerated certification and accreditation Distance learning isn’t for everyone and if you struggle to manage your time and workload it is likely that you will find the distance learning route challenging. Only you can decide if this is the right route for you. You can however rest assured that Innervate Training will provide you with a superior level of support throughout your study period.

If you do not feel ready to attend your training course you can opt to defer your attendance to a later date. Depending on the notification period (refer to our terms and conditions) you may be required to pay a transfer fee. We pride ourselves on small class sizes to ensure that all students receive the support they deserve. As such any last minute notification is likely to prevent us from finding a replacement student for that course. Thus the transfer fee is intended to cover the administrative and operational costs associated with your transfer. In most cases students who have completed all of the distance learning units are suitably prepared for the training course and actually know much more that they realise.
